  • 10.30am GMT Good morning and welcome to coverage of Danny Boyle’s ‘Isles of Wonder’ Olympic Opening Ceremony. We will be keeping you live-updated with all the event’s happenings until 11.30am

  • 10.39am GMT The opening video to the Ceremony is now transporting us to, let’s hope, the Olympics Park. Oh, here comes a chopper.
  • 10.42am GMT “Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to London..” ambiance at the stadium is in full swing. A yellow-shirt man is now making a ‘Quasimodo’ by ringing a bell.
  • 10.44am GMT A video of the 80-strong Only Kids Aloud  Welsch children’s choir singing Cmw Rhondda at Rhossili beach is now playing
  • 10.48am GMT People dressed as farmers everywhere.
  • 10.50am GMT People coming out from the top of hill, in a heavy smoke cloud. Lady Galadriel playing the drums a la Keith Moon. Hello, Evelyn Glennie. Nice cape.
  • 10.55am GMT Six tower-esque smoking chimneys arose with the help of the hill people (who may be miners. Also, some of them look like they’ve just stepped out from Dicken’s Hard Times). Very entertaining if you ask me.
  • 10.57am GMT Things are starting to look like a Pink Floyd music video. Instrumental music, hammers, percussions, .. Roger Waters, where art thou?
  • 11.00am GMT Ten thousand volunteers have been rehearsing over the last months to provide us such a fantastic Opening Ceremony. Danny Boyle, the artistic director to the ceremony, said: ‘The Ceremony is an attempt to capture a picture of ourselves as a nation, where we have come from and where we want to be. The best part of telling that story has been working with our volunteers.’
  • 11.04am GMT The Olympics Rings close the Opening act, rising high above the Stadium.
  • 11.06am GMT We are now stepping inside Buckingham Palace where Daniel Craig in full 007 attire is being pursued by corgis. Wait.. is that the Queen?
  • 11. 07am GMT They’ve just boarded a helicopter. And Churchill’s statue is waving at them. Brilliant stuff.
  • 11.11am GMT James Bond theme music is welcoming Her Majesty the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh into the stadium. The British flag is now being fled by The Royal Navy and The Royal Air Force.
  • 11.12am GMT National Anthem sung by The Kaos Signing Choir for Deaf & Hearing Children
  • 11.18am GMT Performance by the National Health Servive featuring patients and dancing nurses to the sound of Mike Oldfield’s Tubular Bells
  • 11.23am GMT It has now officially turned creepy. Professor Snape, Mary Poppins, children standing on their beds.. And a flute musical accompaniment.
  • 11.26m GMT Simon Rattle conducting the London Symphonic Orchestra, now performing Chariots of Fire, as a tribute to the British Cinematic Industry. Big up to Rowan Atkinson and his multi tasking skills i.e. piano playing and texting.
  • 11.35am GMT Back to the 21st century with the all texting, all status updating, all clubbing youths of the world. Choreographing to the best of British hits; The Who’s My Generation, Stones’ I Can’t Get No, The Kinks’ You Really Got Me, the Beatles’ She Loves You and Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody featuring dancing Freddie Mercuries.
